Egg Run:

Empress Motorcycle Club organised the first ever Wirral Egg Run on 30th March 1980...

Map Of Wirral, Showing Original Egg-Run RouteIt started from one of "the dips" (a sunken car park) on Marine Promenade New Brighton and the (surprisingly direct) route took us West, along the promenade to Harrison Drive. South, through Wallasey Village and then West again, onto Leasowe Road.  Through Leasowe, South at Leasowe Common and down Pasture Road. Over the railway Bridge at the old Cadbury's factory and into Moreton.  Here the route turned West again, leaving Moreton and hurtling down the "Meols Stretch" into Meols... Slower through Hoylake and West Kirby, then over the top of Monument hill and South (ish) on Telegraph Road, through Frankby past Thurstaston Common over the hill into the "Heswall Bends".  Where the group would get seriously split up as the more experienced (lunatic) riders battled their way to the front to get a good run at the series of sweeping, switch-back bends that led to the back end of Heswall, then, more sedately, into Heswall proper and terminating at the Liverpool Children's Hospital.

Here are some photos from one of the earliest Egg-Runs (Circa 1983) including the gathering at the dip and the "Usual" confusion on arriving at the Hospital...

Kindly provided by Bob Gordon...

It's believed these photos are from the same Egg-Run - provided by Pam Kermode (nee Lydiate...)

And here's one from 1988 (...thanks again Bob)
